How Smearcase FroCo Got A Commercial That Sells The Craving First And The Protein Second

Smearcase makes FroCo, a frozen cottage cheese dessert with more than 40 grams of protein per pint.

It comes in four flavors: Vanilla Bean, Peanut Butter, Strawberry, and Mocha Joe.

The brief came to us through VentureFuel, which runs an accelerator for consumer brands. VentureFuel's team wrote the brief, reviewed the creative directions, and chose the concept.

The assignment was a 30 second digital commercial with one tagline: “Your New Protein Dealer.”

The problem

Protein usually looks like shakes, bars, and powders.

FroCo looks like dessert. The commercial had to lean into that contrast without turning into a fitness ad.

The brief was clear on the order of things. The viewer should want a spoonful first, then get surprised by the protein.

That meant premium food cinematography: cold, dense, creamy product, spoon pulls, swirls, and ingredients moving around each pint. No gym clichés, no shaker bottles, no sterile health food look.

Four flavors had to fit inside 30 seconds. The real Smearcase packaging had to stay accurate in every frame, with no altered logos, flavor names, or nutrition claims.

And there was a language problem hiding in plain sight. Smearcase does not call FroCo ice cream. They are building FroCo as its own category.

Before and after
Before

A one page brief for a product in a category most shoppers have never heard of, with four flavors, strict packaging rules, and no commercial yet.

After, with humanreel.ai

Four creative directions, one chosen concept, and a first cut of the commercial that leads with appetite and lands on “Your New Protein Dealer.”

What we did

We treated the brief as a food commercial first and a nutrition story second, and let the client's notes on language shape the work.

01

Brief and direction

  • We worked from VentureFuel's written brief: 30 seconds, 16:9, English voiceover, “Find FroCo near you” as the call to action.
  • We read the single minded message closely. Real dessert indulgence, with 40+ grams of protein per pint.
02

Four creative directions

  • We shared four mood boards, each a different way into the “protein dealer” idea.
  • VentureFuel's team reviewed all four and chose Concept 3.
03

Category language

  • With the concept, the client flagged one rule: FroCo is not ice cream. It is a new category.
  • We built the commercial around FroCo as its own name and its own thing, so the spot sells the category Smearcase is creating.
04

Product accuracy and appetite

  • We kept the real pint packaging front and center, built from Smearcase's approved assets rather than generated from scratch.
  • We gave each flavor its own sensory moment, strawberries, peanut butter ribbons, vanilla bean, coffee and chocolate, and kept the protein claim as the payoff, not the opener.

New category brands live or die on their words. Call FroCo “ice cream” and it becomes a weaker version of something shoppers already know. Call it FroCo and it becomes something new worth trying. AI made it possible to build appetite driven food cinematography without a shoot. Human creative direction is what caught the language, protected the packaging, and kept the protein message in its place, with AI doing the heavy lifting, not making the calls.

The result

VentureFuel received a first cut of the commercial built on their chosen concept.

It opens on the product, lets the flavors carry the first half, and lands the protein claim and “Your New Protein Dealer” at the end.

After reviewing it, VentureFuel asked about next steps for working with humanreel.ai across their accelerator cohort.

What we did, in one line

We made a 30 second commercial for Smearcase FroCo, a high protein frozen cottage cheese, from a one page brief and approved brand assets. Made with AI, directed by people, built to sell the craving first, protect the packaging, and respect a brand that is creating its own category.

Sell the spoonful first. The protein is the payoff.

Why this matters

Better for you food brands have a hard job on screen.

Lead with nutrition and the product looks like medicine. Lead with indulgence and the benefit gets lost.

New categories make it harder. There is no shelf memory to borrow and no familiar word to lean on.

AI video production gives emerging food brands premium food cinematography from the assets they already have, without a studio, a food stylist, or a shoot day.

The standard does not drop. Shoppers can tell when food looks fake, and a brand building a category cannot afford a single wrong word.
